Dear Parents and Students,
It appears that everyone has enjoyed a restful Spring Break, and
we have wasted no time getting back into our usual routines in Grade 4.
We have continued Topic 16 in Maths
this week, covering metric units of capacity and mass, and we have also
spent two lessons reviewing units of time and calculating elapsed time. We will
be measuring temperature next week, before we review the topic and hold our
Topic Test on Wednesday.
In our Literacy Workshop, we have enjoyed our
final week dedicated to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, watching a television production of the
story, and creating our own tributes to the book. We have also spent some time
learning how to correctly use quotation marks and other punctuation required
for direct and indirect quotes. Next week we will be reading a new story form
our Reading text, My Name Is Maria Isabel.
In Science, we are getting closer to the Science
Fair, and so our in-class conferences are beginning to focus on how we are to
process and present our data. We have also continued with Part 2 of the Skills Handbook
supplement of our Science books.
Our studies of the American Midwest continue in Social Studies. We have been learning
about the early history of the region, and we spent some time comparing
historical maps dating back as early as 1803.
Parents, I look forward to seeing you all next week at the
Parent/Teacher Meetings. Please remember that there will be no clubs on Monday
and Wednesday. Students, I will see you all on Monday. In the meantime, I hope
you all enjoy the weekend!
